Unfortunately, IW counts as pure misses, so your axes won't be connecting with the opponent...

I take it you mean for the adrenaline issue. That would also rule out a vampiric axe to help with health then.

Fun IW facts:

Striking an enemy with Illusionary Weaponry does not get you any adrenaline.

There are basically only two attack skills that do work normally under IW: Cyclone Axe and Hundred Blades. (you need to go through some contortions to use the latter with IW though)

Stripping the enchant is the easiest way to ruin an IWer's day, sure, but throwing Price of Failure on them is waaaaay more fun: If you are also hexed with Spirit of Failure or Price of Failure while using IW, every attack will trigger the hex.

Striking someone while you have IW up does not trigger Retribution or Holy Wrath.

In related news, Distortion and most all other stances won't stop IW, either. So there are a few fringe benefits...just a few...

As I've gotten farther in, and hit 20, my skills changed along with it.

I only use Dom/Illusion and Air, with a slight bit of fast casting with my left over points.

Empathy
Backfire
Conjure Phantasm
Chaos Storm
Lighting Strike
Envenerating Charge
Chain Lightning
Conjure Lightning

I've yet to get to the final 15 and 15 in the points, so everything isnt as high as it should be, but every one of my Mesmer Attributes has one minor, and I've bought a mask for each aswell.

The points for this build depend all on the mask I'm wearing at the time.
I have 3: Sleek Mask of Minor Illusion, Costume Mask of Major Vigor, Imposing Mask of Illusion

Also this build uses one minor Fast Cast and one Minor Domination.

with no masks, the build looks like this:

Fast Cast: 5
Dom: 10
Illusion: 10
Air: 10

Legacy of Morello...

Arcane Conundrum
Power Block
Power Drain
Power Spike
Power Leak
finish this?
Going with the theme I suppose you want to throw in a leech signet, and since you're running power drain, you'll have inspiration, so mantra of inscriptions/signets or persistance seems prime. Wastrel's spam for spite, signet of humility for inscriptions, or blackout for another interrupt, because that build's obviously not got enough. :P

Here's what I'm running in PvE right now (I'm currently at abbadon's), built around pure defense.

Fast Casting: 7+1 = 8
Domination: 8+1+3 = 12
Illusion: 9+1 = 10
Inspiration: 9+1 = 10
Curses: 8

Cry of Frustration
Power Spike
Migraine
Guilt
Backfire
Energy Tap
Enfeebling Blood
Shadow of Fear

Generally what I do during a battle is throw Backfire on one caster, guilt on another, then migraine with interupts for a third, with Shadow of Fear and Enfeebling Blood for warrior/rangers. Seems to working pretty well.

I've just reached L20 with my Mes/Ele which is my favourite character. I pumped 14 into fast casting, 10 into domination and 11 into fire... got another 30 points to spend yet, so not sure where I will put them.... primarily I am a fast nuker with only 3 mes skills on my bar and the remainder fire spells. I have found this works really well, and in parties where I am with other Fire Elementalists I am firing off my spells in half the time.

Anyone else using Mesmer as their primary just to become a faster Elementalist? I'm oly PvE playing at the moment, and I know I should be using my Mes to interrupt more but I just love blowing stuff up

Been playing about a week now. First toon I made was a R/Mo (bad idea) imo...

Well starting up me/e now.

Fast casting isn't important?? (confused) In other mmo's i've played. casting is life and death for casters.

well I know I want fire. for the AOE dot.

but for meser skills i'm boned. I like the drain over time one.

Sorry im very clearly noob and happy to show it. Please give me some help on this.

oh yeah, I want to effectivly pvp here as well. but need to understand the game dinamics a bit more.

hey, I'm new to the forums, but I have recently started playing PvP mesmer, I have two builds at the moment, a signet build (just screwing around with that, it's not very good) and an energy drain (no mindwrack) build.

Energy shutdown (No mindwrack)

Backfire-gives me ten seconds to set up the energy draining
energy burn-9 energy down the tube, and ignores armor
signet of weariness-9 energy gone for free
Spirit shackles-if they attack, they lose energy, great way to make sure they really do nothing
ether feast-5 energy and a decent self heal
ether lord-takes off their energy regen for the most part for 10 seconds
energy tap-fast recovery from ether lord, decent amount of energy drained
energy drain {elite}-also fast recovery, even more energy, all that good stuff (haven't capped it yet)

I need a bit of help on this one, I have tested it out (subsituted energy drain with chaos storm), worked pretty well, I do meet a lot of problems vs frag builds, hence backfire.

I use Mesmer so I can get runes for domination and inspiration, I used to be a fast spiker, but I like my current build better.

I've played with different ideas in PvE for some cool effects, since I get bored often. I use a Me/E

I don't remember the stats, but you can play with them.

1. Warder:
Earth, Dom, Insp, Fast Casting (left overs)
~Basically, I just used ward against melee, along with spirit of failure to help with my tanks (less hits, less damage). I then took along empathy to round out anti-warrior enemies. For casters, I took guilt, backfire, leech sig and power-spike. This helps me shut down some casters in PvE. So, in short:
1.Ward Against Melee
2. Spirit of Failure
3. Empathy
4. Guilt
5.Power Spike/Cry of Frustration
6. Leech Sig
7. Backfire
8. Res Sig

This is just a fun little build I used for a bit. On the offhand, if you use armor of earth and then distortion instead of ward, you can solo drakes. I found it amusing.

If you're having trouble with frag builds, hexbreaker neuters em.

Power leak is much better than energy burn, you get an interrupt and 20 e or so at a decent domination level - got to have timing though.

The only way I would use ether lord is if you find yourself running out of energy anyway. If you're not running out, (and with that build you probably aren't) you're throwing away 25ish of your energy to hit them with ether lord - a max of about 10 secs of slow regen.

Who are you using shackles on, wars or casters? As a mesmer if I get shackled, I put my wand away. As a warrior I lose my energy skills. Shackles seems to work best to me on rangers. For warriors use symp visage or soothing images. For casters just drain hardcore.

I also like to carry arcane echo with energy drain, the first drain is free the second is bonus and you strip nearly 40 e fast.

Thanks sigil, and I actually like ether lord a lot, I do end up at around 10 energy at points, so I just ether lord to keep their energy regen at very low, and to get a nice amount of energy for myself. It works fairly well, but I'll try without it to see if it works.

Sometimes I'll Arcane Echo the Ether Lord to gain massive, massive energy regen for 9 seconds at the expense of two of the enemy PvPers.

2 casters down to 1 pip. 2 Rangers down to zero pips. 2 Warriors down to negative 1 pip. Or mix and match. Minus any maintained enchantments/zealous upgrades.

It takes down healing balls very, very well, especially with the upcoming NR change.

The only problem my Mesmer usually encounters is what to pump the excess energy into... I wish I could test under the NR change, because I'd like to see how my theoretical Me/Mo enchantment maintainer will fair under it...

Oh well, two more days,
cmb

I was screwing around with Blackout, and I realized that spell is great to make a build around. As of now, I don't have too many confermed spells, but here's what it looks like:
Backfire
Diversion
Echo {E}
Blackout
Energy tap
3 free slots

I don't know what to put there, I want to use all 8 slots, I'm thinking of using shatter hex/enchantment, but then again, there are some nice spells that could really flesh out this build.

I also have an anti-warrior build, and several reasons for using this...
1) Warrior is last in the killing order, so why not completely disable the guy while your team goes for the Monk or Mesmer.
2) Warriors are the ones mauling your monk or even you, so might as well protect your allies by making the warriors completely useless.
3) Casters depend on Warriors to tank (not always, but a lot of the time), so you take away the wall of protection, and you have the fleshy monk just sitting there.
4) I hate warriors, so damn annoying, I am using blackout on the monk and he comes up and starts hacking away at me. It was just really annoying with his knock down and interruption.
5) Kd/As builds

Here's what I have as of now...
Spirit shackles
Ineptitude {E}
Empathy
Soothing images
Symapthetic visage
Clumsiness
Spirit of Failure
Ether lord

The thing I like about this build is that I can also shift my focus to the ranger once the warrior is gone, ether lord works mostly to shutdown both rangers and wariors in the energy department, and it gives me energy should i run low on it. I also just think ether lord is really cool...probably my favorite mesmer spell.

So, tell me what you think and how i can make these builds better.

Well...I have my Mesmer. How does a backfire/smiting build sound? I'm only level 5 so you know, not all the best skills yet. But if someone could help with that, that would be nice.
